Cod & Kelp: a nod to our marine heritage

Have a peek at North Sydney's latest landmark - Cod & Kelp.   This sculpture project was completed by the volunteers of the downtown Business Improvement & Development Association (BIDA) and we couldn’t be more pleased!  Visible in the first block of town in front of the Museum/Library, the sculpture welcomes all to our front street and is a nod to our heritage.

A great deal of North Sydney's history was built on the cod fishery and as a dedication to our fishing legacy, the Downtown BIDA is pleased to unveil Cod & Kelp, an original metal art sculpture, designed and made by Gordon Kennedy of North River.

This sculpture was installed in August 2023 and was then followed up with the installation of four more pole art sculptures: a mermaid, lighthouse, lobster and anchor.

Six more pole art sculptures will be added during summer 2024.

Thanks to Gordon for his wonderful work, to the North Sydney Historical Society for providing the sculpture's home, and to Steele's Monuments for the granite base and placement.
